A filling may be the solution you need to restore your tooth back to it’s original shape and function.

What is a filling?
A filling is a treatment to repair a tooth that has suffered decay or damage. The treatment involves a dentist removing decay from the tooth then filling the space with a strong composite material.
Typically composite fillings are the most commonly used as they provide a natural look, feel and are easily malleable to suit your tooth.

What's a Fissure seal?
A Fissure seal is a dental sealant used to fill in deep grooves and pits in the tooth.
Natural grooves in teeth can be too deep for a toothbrush to reach or get into, this can result in plaque and bacteria building up on your tooth. If a build up of plague and bacteria occurs, this can cause decay and damage the tooth.
Therefore, by applying a Fissure seal to fill in grooves and pits, decays can be avoided with the sealant acting as a protective barrier.

FAQs
Most dental fillings take 20-40 minutes to complete, however, the exact time depends on the size and location of the cavity. The greater the size, depth and complexity of the filling, the longer the time required to complete the filling.
The dentist may carefully numb the area to start with, then our dentist will remove any decay and clean the area, following that, the dentist places a strong composite resin material and molds to the shape of your tooth. Our team takes their time to ensure a natural feel and appearance.
Here’s why getting a filling is important:
- Stops decay from spreading
- Restores your tooth’s strength and function
- Prevents future pain of infection
- Relieves sensitive
- Protects the natural tooth structure
There are a few signs that you may need a filling, if you experience any of these, visit the Incredible Smiles team for a check-up.
- Tooth sensitivity, is your tooth feeling sensitive to hot or cold drinks, or sweets? This can indicate early signs of a cavity developing
- Toothache or sharp pain, if you experience ongoing discomfort, this can mean decay is creating a cavity in your tooth
- A visible hole or dark spot, any change in colour, pits or visible damage can be a sign of decay causing a cavity
- Rough or chipped edges, if part of your tooth feels sharp or uneven a filling may be required to restore the tooths shape
- Floss catching, when flossing, does the floss get caught on your tooth? This could indicate a cavity or rough spot that could require a filling
- Sometimes cavities don’t have any symptoms at all, this is why regular check ups at Incredible Smiles are important
X-rays are a critical tool that help dentists identify issues beneath the surface and not visible to the eye. X-rays are important for identifying any decay that is occurring between teeth, abscesses on teeth roots and reviewing the alignment of your jaw.
Fillings can be covered under your general dental allowance and depending on your level of cover, your visit may be gap free or partially refunded. Generally, health funds provide rebates for preventative dental.
